Description

:icondreams-of-rem:
updated his character info~ Would have updated his design too but. um- look, pie!
--I'll probably give him a new design after a few levels .u.

Name: Nikolaus Velamere
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Race: Revenant
Height: 5’11
Weapon: Yoyos
Magic: Light. He can only use minor healing spells for cuts and small wounds, a bit of useless buffs and maybe if he tries hard enough (and he rarely bothers or wants to), a weak barrier spell which would drain him of much energy.

Level & Status Points: 1
STR: 0
AGI: 3
INT: 4
DEX: 3
VIT: 0

Organization: Trance

Personality: After Nikolaus' unfortunate history, he has learned to reach out to others, as that would be the only way he would be able to get around easily. He's socially inept and his boldness, if not a charm is more of an annoyance.
His unhealthy cure to a wavering self esteem was easy, as was taught to him by his little sister and that is making fun of other people. Despite his years, this he had continued to carry with him through his time in the seminary and somehow in REM as well. He also has little concern for other's personal space and has little grasp on hints when he should back off.
Oddly enough, he expects other people to comply to his whims and he asserts his stand until he gets what he wants. Nikolaus is one who exploits other people if it would benefit him though his grooming during his years under his mother's rule could be to blame for this mentality. Not that he seems to be growing out of it any time soon. It does not seem to shame him either that he is quite useless in the fray.
While Nikolaus talks a mile, he rarely talks about his history. He has yet to inform anybody else of his condition as he deems it weakening to his image. In his warped, supreme overlord wannabe mind, it makes sense.

History: Nikolaus was the proud Velamere clan's black sheep- but that's just putting it lightly. Borne into the first family as the second of three children, he was given impossibly high expectations; it also did not help that he has an elder brother who established the ridiculous standards by being the perfect little son.
As a child, Nikolaus was very sickly and he was often confined indoors: this was less of a downer for him as much as his mother was and her blatant frustrated tirades on his person. He was just never good enough, not for himself, not for his brother who adapted a cold shoulder towards the other Velamere children and not for his mother. His sister, blessed, sweet little thing, kept him sane though.
While enthusiastic at first to prove them all wrong, his competitive zeal began to waver somewhere along the way and he soon deviated instead from the meticulous grooming, opting to throw it all over his shoulder and frolick his merry way wherever that would take him.
More than a couple of misfits had passed and he was then kept on a tighter leash: his mother berated him more, pushing him this way and that to which he would merely puff his chest and do his best to screw it up. He applied his lessons someplace else as well: for instance, his studies of common insects had told him bees are calmed by smoke how they did not like it very much when you place their nest with other pastries. The last straw was drawn when Nikolaus was found dropping bits of goat urine into his mother's tea (a silly thing to be caught for as he was guilty of things much worse) and he was sent off instead to the seminary as an altar boy(a safer option in contrast to the army, as suggested by his brother).
He was firm on his mischief-making as this was his only source of enjoyment. While he tried to make friends, his antics would often drive them away in fear that they would be named accomplices- and the friars were not too keen on devilry. While Nikolaus was maltreated emotionally at home, he was still spoiled in terms of physical needs. This, however, was shunned from him when he was caught misbehaving. He was cut from rations on day's end, relying on stale bread given to him by the cook out of pity on most days. This did not bode too well with his already sickly condition and he would be lulled to sleep by hunger rumbling in his gut.
One day, despite the violent shaking of his still warm form by one of the angry (then panicky) priests, he just did not wake up.
Not in that reality, that is: Nikolaus opened his eyes to somewhere else strange- beautiful, yes, but strange all the same. He felt a particular kind of lightness: he was hallow and yet that did not seem to bother him much. He was hungry, though, and his gut was given delicious donation by some Lucid who led him to Trance where he learned most that he needed to know about REM. Then he went on frolicking on his own, mostly tentative before he grew more daring, more curious of this new world.
His curiosity, however, got the better of him as he was looking into Terrors, stupidly provoking one of the rarer, stronger breeds: it was huge and spindly with spider-like legs and a spider-like body and moved in a spider-like manner. The battle was already lost to Nikolaus before it had even begun as he was quickly infected with the creature's poison, disabling a better form of retaliation from his part. With his functions betraying him faster than it should, his semblance let out a huge burst of energy as its final stand: its host was save albeit weak and the semblance had shattered.
Nikolaus did not remember how he got out of the forest, much less how he survived, but when he awoke, he was back in the infirmary of one of Trance's bases, numb with medicine and devices that kept him alive. And somehow, he felt a new kind of emptiness though fragments of his life before REM flooded him: it was salt to the wounds.
Though the medics were kind, they were quite straightforward about his condition: apparently, a curious defect, which left its mark on his throat, was hindering him from recovering fully. They theorize that it must have been the side-effect of the poison from the Terror attack and the backfiring of the semblance. Little doses of light magic seemed to appease it though before it would begin to leech at his lifespan once more.
When he was at least well enough to function without massive doses of medicine and spells, he was able to study light magic albeit quite a slow pace as he had to be careful with how he spent his energies. His body caught on a long while after and he was able to function normally (or at least as normal as his defect would allow). Along with quests for the organization, he does a side research of how to cure his defect, if such a cure did exist.

Trivia:
-His semblance was enhanced with dark magic. When it shattered, its energy backfired at him, seemingly embedding the poison in him so to speak.
-He only eats fruits, vegetables and fish.
-His hair was naturally black before the workings of REM got to him when he became a Revenant, giving it a strange green streak.
-He's incredibly vain about his hair. No touchy.
-The amethyst beads beneath his eyes were also the work of REM. They don't hurt nor do they give him any special ability- he's not really sure what they're for.
-He wears a neck bracer over the markings left by the fiasco that gave him the leech-like defect. He never takes it off in the presence of others unless he ties a bandage over it. It is possible that the markings will spread all over his body.
-As if it were not enough that the markings weaken him, they also seem to attract Terrors to him more than a lucid should.
-He can play the piano pretty well. It's one of the few things he's thankful for having been forced down his throat though he won't admit it.
-He always has to do something with his hands. That's how he got into yoyos. Before that, he was into origami, rubber band and simple coin tricks.

I got in yay! :iconlawooplz:
